Jack Brennan Killed

The first member of the Borden Battery to make the supreme sacrifice in the Empire's cause was one well and favourably known both in Cobalt and Porcupine, Gunner John Albert Brennan, mentioned last week in the casualty list as being killed in action. “Jack” Brennan as he was popularly known here, was a former member of the Cobalt Police force, serving about three years as a local “man in blue” between 1909 and 1912, or thereabouts He later went to Porcupine and served for a time on the police force there, afterwards giving up police work and working on the force of the McIntyre Mine at Schumacher. When the Borden's Battery was being recruited about a year ago he was among the first to enlist.
