CORRESPONDENCE

Major Gaetz has sent from Shorncliffe [England] the following letter of acknowledgement as to socks sent for the Red Deer boys of the 12th C.M.R. from the ladies of the I.O.D.E. in this city:-

Canadian Cavalry Depot
Shorncliffe, March 31, 1916

To the Regent,
Admiral Cradock Chapter, I.O.D.E., Red Deer

Madam:  I beg to acknowledge receipt of three bales containing 500 pairs socks for the men of the 12th C.M.R. but unfortunately before these arrived the 12th C.M.R. were broken up by the drafting of 306 men to France.

These men, among them 102 men of "C" Squadron, which was the majority of the Squadron, are now with the 2nd C.M.R. Battalion 8th Brigade 3rd Canadian Division and as I thought the socks were intended more especially for "C" Squadron I have had them forwarded to the Brigadier asking him to have them divided among the men from the 12th C.M.R. and on behalf of these men I would extend their thanks to the laides of the Admiral Cradock Chapter I.O.D.E. for their kindness.

I remain, your truly,

H. L. GAETZ, Major
A-0.C.R.C.D. Res. Regt.
formerly 2nd I-C- 12th C.M.R.
